Residency scholarship in Nuremberg

In August 2024, Charlie Casanova undertook a one-month residency scholarship by the Zumikon Foundation in Nuremberg, renowned for supporting both emerging and established artists, providing a rare opportunity to explore new creative directions without the pressure of completing a specific project. During this time, she revisited drawing — a medium not engaged with for over 15 years — reconnecting with a long-neglected practice in a period of rediscovery and experimentation.

This residency also allowed her to analize the intersection of drawing and film, conducting practical experiments to investigate how these two forms could complement and inform one another. Additionally, Charlie dedicated time to further exploring experimental film, an area of growing interest in recent years.

This residency marked a pivotal moment in her creative development, providing the first extended period in years to focus solely on her personal artistic work, away from theatre commitments or compulsory projects. It was an intensive, productive, and transformative month, offering the space for both reflection and risk-taking that will influence her future projects.

Charlie feels incredibly grateful to have been selected for this program and fondly looks back on her time in Nuremberg.
