CHARLIE CASANOVA

Charlie Casanova is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin whose work delves into themes of identity, social dynamics and the fragility of human connection. Trained in classical piano from an early age, she developed an inveterate sensitivity to rhythm and discipline whilst further evolving creative expression through photography and sketching. Sensibilities for sound and proportion thus permeate her multifaceted practice. Her work spans (live) illustration, oil painting, experimental media (film) and theatre, forming layered narratives burring boundaries between the deeply personal and the universal.

Her creative process navigates the delicate interplay of opposites, such as permanence and transience, offering reflections on decay and the fleeting nature of existence. Oil paintings emerge as rich, introspective works, often evoking a sense of quiet intensity, while her use of text provides glimpses into intimate, reflective moments that resonate universally. Live illustration is a cornerstone of her practice, bringing immediacy and visceral energy by capturing ephemeral moments in real-time, often in dialogue with music, theatre, or performance — heretofore resulting in myriads of opuses.

As an emerging actress and theatre practitioner, Casanova is beginning to explore the possibilities of performance within her multidisciplinary work, on stage and in front of the camera. Her critically acclaimed live piano performance in 'Das Portal' highlights her capacity to merge musicality with dramatic storytelling, thus embodying several different characters. While her journey into acting is still in its early stages, this direction reflects ambitions to further integrate her visual and performative sensibilities. By intent of uniting as many disciplines as possible, Casanova seeks to craft immersive narratives that evoke vulnerability, presence, and connection, deepening the dialogue between artist and audience.​
